Dhansak is a traditional parsi recipe Usually served with brown rice. It is a medley of lentils, vegetables, spices and meat. Being a vegetarian I cannot include meat, so have just made it with lentils, veggies and the spices.

  1. Take chana daal
  2. Get split green daal
  3. Make ready yellow moong daal
  4. Get red lentil daal
  5. Get tuvar daal
  6. Make ready white urad daal
  7. Take fresh fenugreek leaves
  8. Take potato peeled and cut
  9. Take onions peeled and chopped
  10. Take brinjal chopped
  11. Get yellow pumpkin pieces

Usually, dhansak is made with meat, chicken, etc. Here I am sharing with you all a vegetarian version of it. Veg Dhanshak is a lentil-based curry recipe which is served with brown rice. It is made with five different types of lentils, vegetables like lauki, pumpkin potato, methi leaves, and coriander leaves.

Steps to make Dhanshak (veg):
  1. Take all lentils in cooker vessel. Wash trice with water..soak for 1/2 hour.
  2. Wash,peel,chopped all vegetables mentioned in ingredients.
  3. Add chopped vegetables to soaked daals. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  4. Cool the cooked mixed dalas, vegetables. Smash them in mixer grinder jar.
  5. In kadhai add ghee or oil,warm it add cumin seeds to splutter,add turmeric powder,green chillies ginger paste,ginger paste, dhanshak masala powder,red chilli powder and saute for few minutes till ghee/ oil separate.
  6. Add smash mixture of cooked Daal vegetables mixture,add salt to taste, squeeze lemon juice. Mix well,cook for few minutes.
  7. Serve hot nutritious Dhanshak (curry) with jeera rice or buttered toast bread slices.

Dhanshak is a Parsi traditional dish cooked with meat. Given the nutritional content of the recipe, ie. the mix of lentils/daals, a rich sauce of protein and vegetables, rich in vitamins, folic acids,minerals and of course Low in cholesterol, this can be easily made with a vegetarian variation. A traditional Parsi dish usually prepared on Sundays for a family meal. As the name says, dhan-saak is an interesting combination of dals (dhan) and vegetables (saak) perked with loads of spices to make it a mouth-watering dish. We have taken care not to strain out the dal after boiling it so as to retain all the fibre.
